No connector at hand? Use Ask instead

Claude

Works with Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free holds one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds it first under Organization settings.

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Grant Guide, paste the server address and choose Continue.
  4. Under Authentication choose No sign in, then Continue and Add.
  5. In a chat, choose + at the lower left, then Connectors, and switch Grant Guide on.

Grok

Works with grok.com. xAI lists connectors for all Grok users; on Business and Enterprise an admin provisions them first.

  1. Open grok.com/connectors.
  2. Choose New Connector, then Custom.
  3. Paste the server address. Grant Guide asks for no sign-in.
  4. Save. Grok finds the Grant Guide tools; ask a question that names Grant Guide.

ChatGPT

Works with Developer mode on the web, for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education. On workspace plans an admin turns developer mode on first.

  1. Open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Create a new app connection with the + button.
  3. Name it Grant Guide, choose Public endpoint, paste the server address and choose No Authentication.
  4. In a chat, choose Developer mode from the + menu and pick Grant Guide.

Le Chat

Works with Mistral Le Chat. On Free, Pro and Student the account owner adds connectors; on team plans an admin does.

  1. Open Connectors and choose Add Connector.
  2. Switch to the Custom MCP Connector tab.
  3. Connector name: grantguide (no spaces). Server URL: the server address.
  4. Choose Connect. No authentication is detected for a public server.
  5. In a chat, choose + then Tools, and turn Grant Guide on.

VS Code

Works with GitHub Copilot Chat in agent mode. Organisations can limit MCP through GitHub policies.

  1. Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server.
  2. Choose HTTP, paste the server address, name it grantguide and pick where to save it.
  3. Or save the snippet below as .vscode/mcp.json, then confirm the trust prompt.
  4. In Chat, agent mode, use Configure Tools to switch the Grant Guide tools on.

When something does not work

The tools do not appear

Start a new chat, check that Grant Guide is turned on for this chat, or remove the connector and add it again.

Connection failed

Check that the address ends in /mcp with no space after it. If the server is resting, it says so and points to Ask.

Too many requests

Wait a minute and ask again. Many people share the same assistant servers, so a busy hour can hit the limit.

Answers without sources

Ask the assistant to load the Grant Guide prompt grantguide_answer_rules, or paste https://eugrantguide.com/ask/rules.txt into the chat.

Claude Free already has a connector

The Free plan holds one custom connector. Remove the other one, or use Ask, which needs no connector.

A company account blocks custom connectors

The workspace admin decides. Ask works without any connector.

What goes where

  • The assistant's provider sees the conversation, under the founder's own account and terms.
  • Grant Guide sees only the tool calls: a program id, search words or company facts such as country and stage. It stores none of them and keeps no IP address.
  • No sign-in, no cookies, no personal data needed.
